Our democratic form of government is a marvelous experiment that has served our nation well for almost 250 years. Over the last couple of decades, we have witnessed the power and authority of the Executive Branch expanding at the expense of the Legislative Branch’s constitutional discretions. Added to this significant shift in bureaucratic muscle has been the expanded role played by rogue federal judges in our nation’s justice system and deep state scoundrels burrowed deep within our Department of Justice (DOJ).
The
partisan paralysis we are now witnessing in Congress is supporting this
evolution. Try as they might, partisan
federal judges have been largely ineffective in changing the thrust of
presidential policies through their political rulings and edicts. Imperfect
as they are, the SCOTUS does serve as an effective firewall to judicial overreach. The secret society of rascals within the DOJ
is still managing to throw sand in the gears of government; but the gears are
slowly grinding the sand down and have yet to come to a complete halt. Democracy works painfully slow sometimes and
oftentimes more resembles a circus than a body politic. Yet
America continues to grow, people continue to thrive, those in need continue to
find support from various sources, and the world outside the USA’s borders
still views our nation with envy.
The
making of America’s democratic sausage is sometimes pretty pitiful to watch;
but it remains ultimately quite satisfying in a culinary sense. For all of our faults, our flaws, our sins,
our transgressions, our arrogance, our foolishness, our conceit, our narrow
mindedness, our subborness, and our partisanship…this country remains a beacon
of hope for this planet and imperfect as it is, continues to lead towards a
better world for all. The moments are
far too rare these days, but we should all…Republicans, Democrats,
Independents, Conservatives, Liberals, Neocons, Progressives…look for those moments, no matter how
fleeting, when we can without reservation stand together and salute these
United States of America. Perhaps
the upcoming 250th Year celebration will give us that moment. Hope springs eternal.

The
Iran conflict is now about 8 weeks old and from all appearances, is winding
down to some form of settlement. Without a doubt, the remaining government in
Iran…whatever form it may take…will
have less ability to create terroristic havoc in the Middle East and across the
globe. When the dust settles over the
next few weeks, it will ultimately lie with the nations of the Middle
East…including Israel…to chart their own course towards peace and prosperity
for their region. As difficult as it
sometimes can be, one must give President Trump credit for having the political
courage to clean up the festering cancer that is Iran. His antiseptic and hands-off military
approach is to be admired. It is not
what you might expect from a man with such a supersized ego.

The
corruptive nature of the Democrat Party is not significantly different in width
and depth than that of the Republican Party; but is different in nature. Democrats and Republicans alike…as we have
just witnessed with House expulsions from both sides…have their dalliances with
sexual impropriety, greed, malfeasance, laziness, and deep dark bouts of
self-importance. But when that time
arrives when one side or the other gains the policy-making upper hand by
seizing control of both the White House and Congress, we can begin to glimpse
the different nature in the two parties.
The masks begin to slip.
Republicans
will occasionally deregulate to a fault, unwisely cut spending when worthy
missions are at stake, and allow their unhealthy nationalistic tendencies to
take control of their sincere patriotic feelings. Democrats will throw buckets of money towards
social engineering of various forms with no sense of reason or careful
consideration of price tags, they allow their policies to address issues
through rose-colored glasses that run the serious risk of both anticipated and
unanticipated tragic consequences, and they are much better at consolidating
their forces to take maximum…and sometimes
non-democratic…control of government to the point where it becomes
monolithic and close-minded.
When
taken to extremes, Democrats become the ultimate Karen and suffocate the voices
of dissent that will contain varying degrees of legitimate criticism regarding
their governance. When given sufficient sway, they truly believe they know better what is
best for the people than the people know themselves. Republicans will sometimes throw babies out
with the bath water and proceed on a callous and harsh path to efficiency; but
they will not err on the side of reducing individual freedoms. Therein lays the crux.
If
we are to go to political extremes with either the conservatism of the right or
the liberalism of the left…give me
overindulgence in freedom every…single…time. Neither political party has
any semblance of claim to sainthood or eternal wisdom; but the Republican’s
thrust is much more in line with the constitutional blueprint of this nation
than that of the Democrats. At the heart
of the matter…conservatism celebrates the power of the individual; while
liberalism celebrates the power of the state.
Wrong is wrong…but when
Republicans are wrong, they are wrong for the right reasons.

The
reality is simple: Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. FISA comes very near to absolute power. The inherent integrity of our government does
not merit this level of authority.
