The Democrats have their Biden Problem and appear to have few, if any, solutions to it. They have chosen that hill to, hopefully, perish upon. The Republicans have their Trump Problem and have several good solutions to it. The meaningful question is whether or not they will choose any of them or insist on rolling the dice with Trump. Now if you are a rabid MAGA-Trump Republican, I completely understand why you want to support and vote once again for Trump. He has been unfairly hounded and persecuted by the mainstream media for over six years now. He has lived daily with the double-standards of liberal hypocrisy and has endured the conceited scorn of Republicans In Name Only.
America
loves an underdog…or at least, the overwhelming majority of conservative and
moderate Americans love an underdog. For
all the things that he certainly is not, Donald Trump is an iconic
underdog. He relishes the “against all odds” battle; he feeds off
the energy of criticism and derision; the bright lights of celebrity charge his
batteries; and his ego gains superhuman strength when given a glimmer of
opportunity. Somehow, even through all
of his hubris, he has stumbled consistently upon policies that are not only
wildly popular with many Americans; those same policies have proven to be extremely
fair, equitable, and good for our nation and its citizenry. So why
in the world would any Republican, Independent, or moderate Democrat even
consider someone else to run against Joe Biden in 2024?
The
undeniable truth is that Donald Trump is the most polarizing politician in
recent memory. He enjoys undying loyalty
from his followers; but he also attracts unmitigated hatred from many of his
detractors. And while every single one
of us has character flaws, Trump is like most politicians in that his flaws
seem to be magnified by the celebrity status he enjoys. The power and influence of political status
seems to cast a neon glow on Trump’s less desirable habits. And the elephant sitting on the couch in the
Republican living room has a clear message for the party of Reagan: Donald Trump’s negatives are damn near as
large as Donald Trump’s positives.
The
critical issue in the next presidential race is not to shove Donald Trump in
the face of the liberal elites who have poisoned this nation over the last several
years. It is not addressing the craven urge
to see the mainstream media proven to be as impotent as we hope they have
become. It is not even to return Trump to
office in order to resurrect those policies that served our people so well
during his term as President. Why not? Because
we can have those same policies without Trump. The single, most important issue in our next
presidential election is to keep Joe Biden, or whoever the Democrats might
choose to replace him with, out of the White House. And the
fact is that Donald Trump does not present the best chance of getting that goal
accomplished.
If
the Republican Party nominates Donald Trump as their presidential candidate in
2024…and if a Democrat wins the presidency in 2024…the Republican Party and all
those who voted for Trump will share equally with the Democratic voters in the
continuing ruination of this great nation.
The zeal to stick it to the Democrats and their liberal cabal cannot be
allowed to transfer its energy and strength over to Donald Trump for his self
glorification and ego-stroking. Because if that occurs…there is a good chance
that he will fall short of election day victory, take down with him the
marvelous opportunity for voters to cleanse our government of the ongoing
liberal foolishness that is coursing through it, and perhaps set the stage for
an American devolution that will turn out to be beyond redemption.
To
all the MAGA Trump supporters: celebrate your cause…celebrate it loudly and
proudly; fire up your enthusiasm for change and a return to reason. Campaign energetically for Republican candidates
all up and down the local and national ballots; vote and promote voting to all
that are eligible to do so. But do not
place all of that hope…and reason…and dedication…and principle in the vessel of
Donald Trump. Place your bets on the
competitor that has the single best chance to accomplish what must be
done. Listen to your heart…but vote with your head. The stakes in the next election are far too
serious to compete therein on the basis of pure emotion.
