Abortion in America continues to
roil our citizenry with uncompromising positions being
hardened on both sides of the issue. The
demagoguery that is taking place in this discussion is breathtaking and there
is a great deal of intentional distortion and deception occurring. For some reason…and I suppose it is quite simply clinging to strongly held convictions…a
significant portion on either side of the debate simply refuses to give an
inch. I believe we are moving towards a
middle ground, but the progress is agonizingly slow.
And
while the abortion issue struggles towards consensus, the total absurdity of the transgender issue to setting new records for
stupidity. Why in heaven’s name can we not all simply acknowledge that the
fundamental definition of male and female is rightfully determined in a
biological context? Once that
determination is made, there is legitimate debate about the width and breadth
of personal freedoms revolving around gender preference. But calling something one thing when it is
clearly not that thing…simply because you
want it to be that thing…has never been acceptable and it remains so today. In
this arena of policy, we are allowing the tip of the tail to wag the entire dog…and
probably the kennel it resides in. Children are not adults. There are certain decisions whose gravity is
sufficient that children should not make them for themselves. There
is a reason that parents exist.
And
one has to be dull to the extreme not to realize that there is an underlying violent quotient involved in this transgender
debate. When we throw common sense
and reason out the door, and sanction depravity as normal…the loonies take the floor.
