America’s Road to Ruin…c/o Joe Biden and the Democrats

What kind of shape is America in today?  As you look around yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers, your community, your state, our country, and the world in general…do you get a feeling of comfort or do you have serious concerns about the future?  I suspect that for most people, the prevailing sentiment is the latter.  And even though I am extremely skeptical about polls, almost all of them are supporting the notion that this country is pretty much fed up with the mess that has been created by the Biden Administration and the Democrat Party that supports and controls it.

They are fed up to the point that they appear willing to accept as his replacement the once-vanquished candidate Donald Trump.  There is no doubt in my mind that the reason so many Republicans are supporting The Donald, in spite of his despicable personal traits, is the simple fact that he seems clearly preferable to the alternative of the Biden Administration, the Sequel.  That, my friends, is a very low bar to clear.

I have made, and will continue to make, the argument that the Republican Party can offer up a far better presidential candidate than Donald Trump.  I have also put forth the notion that the Republican Party has a much better chance of winning the presidency with a candidate other than Trump.  I continue to believe that; but the simple fact is that I and others who agree with that sentiment are increasingly swimming upstream.  As I have written in my previous post…Donald Trump certainly seems to be inevitable.

O.K…... If Trump is to be the alternative to the disaster that is the Democrat Party, then so be it.  As I wrote before, a severely-flawed Donald Trump is far preferable to any candidate that the Democrats might serve up.  But even if Trump were to prevail over the Democrat candidate and win the presidential election next year, what will the implications of that event be when considering the down-ticket candidates?

A very persuasive argument can be made that the Republican Party today would have a Senate majority and a much stronger House majority if Donald Trump had stayed out the 2020 elections and not recruited his preferred candidates…many of whom were defeated.  It is a fact that Trump has not shared his campaign war chest dollars with the candidates he so vocally supports; his support is heavy on publicity and short on substance.  It is likely the case that Trump has spent more of his campaign contributions on his own legal defense than he has on Republican down-ticket candidates.  Where will we be if Trump becomes our next president, but then he must deal with a Democrat-controlled Congress?

The Biden Administration, through their rabid abuse of Executive overreach, has demonstrated that a presidential administration can affect a tremendous amount of change in our nation without the full participation of Congress.  But in the current situation, the Senate is controlled by the Democrats with a razor’s edge advantage and the Republican majority in the House has demonstrated its inability to function as a majority...House Speaker McCarthy spends all of his time herding chickens instead of governing.  This stalemate has given the Biden Administration the leeway to operate independently from Congressional input, participation, and oversight.

If Trump wins the presidency and the Democrats take control of Congress, then there can be little doubt that we will be in for a replay of the first Trump Administration…Donald Trump versus the World.    If the state of the nation under the first Trump term (good economy, solid border control, world peace, etc.) can be duplicated, then that would not be a bad scenario.  The plain fact is that times were pretty good in America under Donald Trump’s tour as Chief Executive.  But things have changed since then.  In the short time since Trump left the White House and Biden has taken up residence, our country has spiraled uncontrollably downhill.  A deep hole has been dug, the United States of America has fallen into it, and it will not be an easy task to get out.

The Biden Administration, the Democrat Party, and the liberal presence that controls them both have placed this nation on a road to ruin.  The effort required for getting it back on track, in the middle of the road, and between the ditches will be a monumental challenge.  It is questionable whether or not a President Trump, while doing daily battle with a Democrat Congress and all of their liberal allies, could achieve the administrative and policy changes necessary to get our country pointed back in the right direction.  Biden and the Democrats have screwed things up to the point where band aids will be totally inadequate to solve our aliments; a cure will be required…a serious cure.  The kind of cure that features a strong, fundamental, significant change in government control; change that requires a President and a Congress that are on the same page and will have the willpower and authority to implement necessary legislation, critical personnel changes, and wise policy decisions.

I am confident that American voters are in a mood that accurately views Joe Biden as an incompetent, ineffective, and corrupted President.  I believe they understand that he is a puppet for the Democrat Party and the liberal elements that control it.  But I fear that the voting public has tunnel vision when it comes to national elections.    The dots must be connected between the presidential administration that controls the Executive Branch and the individual Senators and Representatives that control the Legislative Branch.  While it is true that the President can load up our government with his patronage appointees and quickly change the policy tilt of our government by doing so; that reach can only go so far without the fundamental support of Congress.

It cannot be overlooked that the only effective firewall that remains between the Biden Administration and much further damage to our nation is the Judicial Branch of our government (the Supreme Court of the United States/SCOTUS) that has managed to stymie many of the more radical efforts of the Democrat Party and the current Administration.  Biden was able to load up our government with radical and liberal ideologues because he has a Democrat Senate to approve his appointees.  The SCOTUS has been able to stop maniacal liberal policies because it has a solid conservative majority, made possible by past Republican presidents with complementing Republican Senates that were able to approve conservative Justices.

Republicans must persuade voters to make the connections between the ruination wrought on our nation by the liberal Democrat presidents and the local candidates (Senators and Representatives, both State and National) that they selected to work with those presidents.  Putting a Republican in the White House while hamstringing them with a Democrat Congress is a half measure that will not offer the necessary cure.  The change that is needed is a Republican president with a majority Republican Congress that can get things done in WDC.

So the question is: How does that happen?  It happens when the Republican Party selects good, solid, electable candidates at the State and National levels and then supports those candidates in their election efforts.  It also requires a presidential candidate that can focus on campaigns other than his/her own and use good judgment and common sense when involving themselves in his/her party’s down-ticket races.  It requires a shared vision by a national party led by a presidential candidate who appreciates that success is defined in terms other than his or her own concerns.  That candidate must understand for the people as opposed to for himself/herself.

Donald Trump is totally and exclusively fixated on Donald Trump.  If he wins the presidency in 2024 and brings a Republican majority in Congress with him, it will be because of the dismal performance that we have witnessed from the Biden Administration and the Democrats in Congress.  It will not be because Donald Trump understands, supports, and is invested in the process of achieving a Republican majority in Congress.  On the other hand, if Donald Trump is our next president, it could very well turn out to be a pyrrhic victory for the Republican Party…and our country.  Why? … Because his candidacy could lead to a Democrat Congress.  Republican voters need to carefully consider which presidential candidate offers the best chance for unwinding the disaster that is the Biden Administration and the Democrat Senate; which candidate will strive to carry his/her Party to victory rather than elevating themselves to personal savior status?  Is that candidate Donald Trump or someone else?  The stakes could not be higher.

Is America truly on the road to ruin?  Let us consider the state of our nation today………

Joe Biden and the Democrats have a policy of open borders.  How has this impacted our country?  This crisis has been wholly created by the Biden Administration.  They were handed upon their entry into the White House a stable southern border, an effective national immigration policy, and good international immigration co-operation from our southern neighbors.

Our nation’s educational system, certainly in the college and university arena, was already extremely liberal upon Biden’s ascent to the presidency.  The Biden Administration has taken a bad situation and by encouraging and enabling its worst actors, has made it into a raging crisis and a threat to our nation’s future.

The Biden Administration and the Democrats in Congress have one solution for all of America’s problems: Throw money at it!  Their tax and spend tendencies combined with their idiotic energy policies have combined to create a financial crisis that will quite likely extend far beyond this generation and cripple the economic future of our children.  Once again, Biden has taken a good thing and utterly destroyed it.  The facts tell the story.

Abortion is a gut-wrenching topic to discuss and debate.  Both extreme positions on this issue are dug in so deep that they will not compromise; while the majority in the middle cannot seem to find a way to bring them together.  The SCOTUS brought some sanity back into the discussion when they confirmed that abortion rights were NOT in our Constitution and then assigned the task of regulating abortion back to the states.  But somehow, Joe Biden, the Democrats, and the mainstream media did not get that message.  They continue to use abortion as a political cudgel and shamelessly wield it in the most hypocritical fashions imaginable, thus worsening the poisonous partisan environment that exists in our nation.  The federal government has been told by the guardians of our Constitution to stay out of the abortion debate and both the Democrats AND the Republicans (looking at you, Donald) should pay heed to that directive.

Of all the stupid things that have been done by the Biden Administration, perhaps the worst of them is the degradation in the quality of patronage appointments to federal positions of power, influence, and authority.  The bulk of Biden’s appointees have been ideologues, unqualified for their positions, immune from proper vetting procedures, and tilted towards partisanship and corruption.  The star of this circus is Merrick Garland, our infamous Attorney General who has politicized the Department of Justice (DOJ) to point where it now has no respect, no credibility, and no ability to perform its assigned functions.  The majority of the nation is convinced that it is corrupt and that it administers multiple levels of justice depending on who the alleged perpetrators are.  There are many intelligent people who believe that the DOJ is so corrupted that it must be essentially torn down and rebuilt.  What a shame and embarrassment.  Of course, when you consider the man who put Garland where he is, his pitiful performance should be expected.  The entire Biden Administration is either woefully incompetent, incredibly stupid, or shamefully corrupt…or a combination of the three.

The Democrats were thrilled with their impeachment theatre when Donald Trump was president.  I wonder how they will like the show when it comes back around.  I would prefer that the House investigates the Biden Family Enterprise like hell, but refrains from trying to impeach when they know there is no chance of a Senate conviction.  Show the world how dirty the Bidens are and then let the voters decide.  But the Republican thirst for revenge is strong and in the case of this particular stage production, we will just have to see how it plays out.

Not content to mangle the domestic functions of America’s government, the Biden Administration has also offended our allies, emboldened our adversaries, and confused those others observing us on the world stage.  Our President is an embarrassment to himself and our nation when he appears off shore…and the imbeciles he has selected to make foreign policy decisions are imperiling our national security and making this planet a much more dangerous place.

Is Donald Trump Inevitable?

As of right now…it sure looks that way.  The only thing that could upset that applecart would be the incarceration of Trump on one or more of the multiple indictments that have been filed against him.  And you know, the way things are going…a picture of Trump laying back on his cell cot through jailhouse bars would likely be worth several points in the polling and millions in campaign contributions.

It seems that the reality is such that many, many people are so upset with the way the Democrats conducted themselves in the 2020 elections and through the Biden Administration’s term so far that they will support Trump for President come hell or high water.  For whatever reason, they are convinced that the only way to balance the political ledger is for Trump to be restored to the presidency.

The Republicans have a field of presidential candidates that is nothing short of superior.  There are no fewer than four of these individuals who would make outstanding choices as Chief Executive.  My choice is Ron DeSantis; but there are several others who would certainly be a better choice than the ultimate Democrat candidate.  But no matter how impressive the other Republican candidates might be and notwithstanding their prospects of winning the general election as compared to Trump, the majority of Republicans, many Independents, and a few disenchanted Democrats seem dedicated to the proposition of putting the MAGAman back in the White House.

It must be stated for the record that things can absolutely change between now and Election Day in November of 2024; but it certainly appears to be leading towards a conclusion that will not be denied.  I am amused by the many articles that address the failure of the DeSantis campaign to gain any traction versus Trump; here is a good example by a very respectable author: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2023/09/15/what_happened_to_the_desantis_campaign_149765.html .  I honestly believe that the failure to pose a serious political threat towards Trump is not the failure of the alternative Republican candidates; it is more the result of the phenomenon that is Donald Trump.  The only hope for them to win is for him to self-destruct.  Now given what Donald Trump is, that is always a possibility.  But as of today, it appears he can do no wrong and will be the ultimate Republican nominee for president in 2024.

I cannot pretend to explain why the support for Trump continues to expand while his obvious flaws as a human being become more apparent through his actions and behavior.  It must be that Donald Trump represents much more than a mere candidate to many people.  For many, he is the vehicle that can hit back at the Democrats for all of their 2020 election shenanigans,  their incredibly stupid woke madness, the idiotic policy initiatives of the Biden Administration, and the pure adrenalin rush that can be produced when the crowd invests itself in “getting back at the man” (the man being the government).

Another fact that is simply undeniable is that life in America was damn good under the Trump Administration.  It is pointless to submit analysis which argues that much of this success was not due to Trump, but rather to other sources and events.  The simple truth is that Trump was President, he was in control of the White House, and the credit rightfully flows in his direction.  We all know that if things had not gone well, the blame would certainly be flowing in that direction.  This is evident in the fact that 99 percent of the stuff that the Democrats have thrown at Trump has little or nothing to do with his policies; they have to do with the character of the man himself.

This inability to separate the man Donald Trump from the good things that occurred during his presidency makes it extremely difficult to oppose him at any level.  If you cannot attack his policies when he was president, then you must go after his personal flaws.  And the simple fact is that as bad as some of those flaws might be, many of his attackers (and his predecessors) have flaws just as bad or worse.  If you live in the glass house known as Washington, DC…you better be very cautious about throwing stones.

Ron DeSantis is in the throes of a powerful conundrum.  If he gets down in the mud with Trump and starts to address the foibles of Trump’s personal behavior, he may emerge the winner but will be so muddied himself as to be unviable.  It seems he has one choice; he must wait for Trump to wither under the suffocating legal challenges he faces.  If Trump’s house begins to crack under this pressure, then DeSantis is standing there as the competent backup.  But if Trump does not crack, it is difficult to see how anyone unseats him as the nominee.  To put it simply: Ron DeSantis (or any other Republican presidential nominee) cannot win the nomination; they can only hope that Trump somehow manages to lose the nomination.

If Donald Trump is to be the Republican nominee for President next year, I will be disappointed.  As a conservative Independent, I would hope that the Republican Party selects one of the other candidates who have strong resumes without the personal baggage that Trump carries.  But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Trump is the Republican nominee, he will by far be a superior choice to any person the Democrats put up in opposition.  I can only hope and pray that if he is elected president in 2024, he will spend his term trying build on his prior policy success and eschew trying to settle old scores with Democrats and RINOs.

If he can do that, grow in his presidential maturity as compared to his previous term, and marshal his MAGA forces for positive and productive change in our country… then it is quite possible that following next year’s elections, our nation could be put back on the track of recovery towards a strong economy, a respected and responsible global position on this planet, a return to civil and transparent government (THAT is a long reach), and a revival of a constitutional allegiance in our justice system that honors and respects the vision of our country as envisioned by our founders.

A short note before moving on to the news…  After completing some downed-trees cleanup on the farm this morning, I made a quick trip up to the ridge to check on the cattle.  As I broke from the woods into the open field in my UTV, I was struck once again by the sheer beauty of the world we live in.  I just finished bush hogging last week and the fields look so good this time of year.  The woods are still mostly green, but are beginning to show a hint of color that tells us fall is just around the corner.  The temps are perfect to do any type of work you have on the list.  I let my eyes extend past my fencerows and took in the vast expanse from there to the horizon.   The woods, the fields, and the never-ending blue skies provided a picture that could literally take your breath away.  I was so moved by the sight that I said a short prayer to myself…Praise your name, Lord.  God is good.  God is great….P.S. Please forgive me for my sins.  It will always be a mystery to me how anyone can look at this magnificent and complex world we live in and not realize that an intelligence far greater than ours and a power beyond simple evolution must have created it.

Our third branch of government, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), has become the only remaining bulwark against much of the liberal madness that now pervades our nation.  It is unfortunate that the wheels of justice turn so slowly, but we must never forget that they are turning.  Based on the current composition of the SCOTUS, we can take comfort in their decisions that will in large part determine the future of America and uphold our Constitution.

If you will only listen to the Democrats, they will tell you what they intend to do with our government.  They seek an autocratic body that increases the size and power of itself, strengthens its control over the lives of the citizenry, and stifles dissent with every lever of power available to it.

The U.S. economy is in truly dangerous waters.  Many of the underlying supports for our economy are weakened or compromised and there are trends in motion that do not bode well for the future of America’s working class.  Without a doubt, many times a president is along for the ride on the national economy and can really do very little to impact it.  Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has been very pro-active in their meddling with the economy and it has had a disastrous effect on it.

President Joe Biden’s potential impeachment by the House of Representatives is a topic that I am quite ambivalent about.  While it appears quite likely that Biden has done some things that fit neatly into the terms of impeachment (bribery),  I cannot forget the frustration and futility I felt when Congress went after Clinton in the 90’s and the same feelings I experience as the Democrats continue to chase their white whale Donald Trump.  I would prefer to let the courts deal with any crimes that may have been committed by the Biden Family Enterprise and its members.

At its fundamental core, impeachment is a political tool and must be evaluated in those terms.  Joe Biden will hopefully be gone in about a year and three months.  An impeachment inquiry and proceeding would eat up a large chunk of that time and even if the House impeaches Biden, there is no possible way the Senate will convict him on those charges.  It would seem more reasonable to simply allow Representative Comer to continue his investigation, disclose those findings to the public, and then let the voters decide on Biden’s behavior if he stands for re-election next year.

I can understand a member of the House defending the initiation of the impeachment process as simply doing their sworn duty; it is in fact an obligation of the House to monitor the President and his Administration.  On the other hand and as I said before, impeachment is a political tool and should be wielded with a good dose of common sense and logic.

With a President that is as obviously corrupt as Joe Biden appears to be, it is difficult not to pursue impeachment.  This is one of those times when the dynamics of the situation are so complex and powerful that it is nearly impossible to predict the outcome.  Regardless, Joe Biden and his Biden Family Enterprise continue on with business as usual.

Joe Biden and his Administration have been played as fools on the world stage by both our allies and our adversaries.  It is concerning when our allies laugh at us; it is extremely dangerous when our adversaries do so.
