How many times have we said that to ourselves? Can we score that prime lotto number just one time? Can I hit multiple intersection lights on green just once? Just one time, could you tell me “good job” instead of “really?” Just ONE Time is an elusive, distant, and so hard to grasp desire. But it is one that every one of us deals with in our everyday lives.
Now
do you suppose that notion has occurred to Donald Trump over the last fifteen
months? Taking his first term off the
table…a period of time where historical
corruption, sabotage, deceit, and conniving worked against a President of these
United States like never before, let us just consider his second term.
Can
you recall a single…SINGLE…instance
when Chuck Schumer has agreed with anything
Trump said or did? What about Hakeem
Jeffries…has he ever, in fifteen months, found anything favorable associated with our President? CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, NYT, and the WP…how many
times do they rip and tear at all things Trump and how much time do they spend giving him credit for something good? Even his own Republican Party…in the form of
Rand Paul, Thom Tillis, Thomas Massie, and Lisa Murkowski…find little reason to
back the man who is the clear leader of their
own Party. Goodness sakes…even a
broken clock is right twice a day.
You
are entitled to your own opinion, but not
to your own reality. How long can
all of these people continue to cry and wail about Trumpian policies when those
policies are buttressed by common sense, practicality, and solid
reasoning? Why should males be in females’
sports and dressing rooms? Why should
illegal immigrants be given a pass on their illegal status? Why should voters not have to provide
identification and be a US citizen in order to enjoy their voting
privilege? What is it that intrinsically
prevents so many people in America from understanding that the Muslim radicals
that control the nation of Iran live and breathe for the sole purpose of
destroying Israel, America, and any other nation that refuses to adopt their
religious beliefs…and that this will
never change as their power and destructive capabilities continue to increase? What is it that prevents these folks from just one time agreeing with,
acknowledging, supporting, or simply casually noting that something…anything…Donald John Trump does makes
sense and has some merit?
Here
is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.
The legislative process is simple.
Regular order is for the House to pass a bill, the Senate then considers
that bill and agrees to the same language, and the bill then goes to the
President and is signed into law. This
is what has happened to 11 of the 12 departmental appropriations bills
necessary to fund our government this fiscal year. This is
regular order; doing the job they were elected to do. The twelfth bill…the DHS
appropriation…was agreed to and then passed by the House. But the Democrats in the Senate reneged on
their agreement and have refused to supply sufficient votes to pass the House
version. They are demanding an ever-increasing list of changes to the
House bill…constantly moving the goalposts.
They have effectively shut down the Department of Homeland Security.
Now
if the House bill that they now have in hand is altered by the Senate, then it
must once again be considered in the
House, passed, and then go to the President for his consideration. In
essence, the process must begin all over again. Understand this…not only do the Senate Republicans have to agree to
Democrat demands, but the House
Republicans must also agree. We are going from a one-step process that is
a guaranteed success to a three-step process fraught with political peril. This is de facto governing malfeasance on
behalf of the Senate Democrats.
We
have elections. Those elections placed
the Republicans as the majority party
in the House and the Senate. The
Democrats were quite comfortable with this arrangement when they held the majority under the Biden
Administration. In the House, a simple
majority is sufficient to conduct business.
In the Senate, for much of the legislation considered, 60 votes are
required as opposed to a simple majority of 51. The Senate
Democrats…being placed in minority status by the voters…have decided that
the DHS funding bill will be written THEIR
way or it WILL NOT PASS.
As
the DHS shutdown continues and people are increasingly inconvenienced by its
impact, we should all remember that the
shutdown lies at the feet of the Senate Democrats…plain and simple. If they
wish to control the Senate process, they should pursue a majority status via
elections instead of throwing rocks into the gears of our government’s
operation. Instead, they are acting like
spoiled children and causing danger and inconvenience to the citizens of our
nation. They have deliberately chosen to
shut down DHS…the department of our government that protects us from domestic terrorism
(Department of HOMELAND SECURITY)
and the department that helps to assure safe and efficient air travel. They do
not mind paying this price to quench their political thirst because they HATE
Donald Trump.
Karma
can be a bitch. The truth hurts
sometimes. What comes around goes
around. These people are so damn
predictable. When will reality be
sufficient for these folks to abandon their infantile and insane
obstinacy? For all of his many obvious
personal flaws, President Trump has been on the right side of ninety percent of
his policy decisions. And if he is wrong
on some or if you disagree with him, the bottom line is that he was elected
president by the entire nation and
is, in fact, the Chief Executive of our government. There are constitutional processes in place
for Congress to handle disagreements with the Executive Branch. Government
paralysis should not be one of them.
Donald
Trump has a bit over 33 more months to serve in office. Will
there ever be a time over that period when some of the aforementioned Trump
Derangement Syndrome devotees will stand up and simply admit that the man
occasionally does something right? Yes,
Trump is oftentimes hard to take; but sometimes, the medicine we need to heal
our illness can be most bitter at the taking…yet so rewarding in the long run.
