Not a day goes by anymore without some type of news story being heralded as the perfect depiction of our national right v. left, conservative v. progressive, Democrat v. Republican, white v. black v. brown v. yellow, Trump v. the world, religion v. faith, neighbor v. neighbor conflicts. Lord knows…there is no overstating the degree to which our nation, and much of the world, is polarized in an ideological fashion. Forget managing other lands; we need to figure out a way to manage ourselves.
As
it has in times past, most notably during our Civil War, our country is
struggling to come to terms with precisely what its foundational principles
are. Assuming
that our Constitution appropriately guides us in that quest is no longer a
supposition without dissent…significant
dissent at that. Our Constitution is
currently our anchor: https://constitution.heritage.org/
. Do we want to sever the rope on our
anchor and drift into another form of government? Or…do we want to work within the framework of
that document to make thoughtful and transparent changes that better align with
today’s world?
More
than ever before, each one of America’s citizens needs to consider their lives
and the lives of their families and friends.
They need to educate themselves on the realities occurring about us.
They need to dig for the details of what has happened and what is actually happening, as opposed to what is
being said about what is happening. This knowledge is at our finger tips.
“Watershed moment” is an overused phrase
that we are all familiar with. At the
risk of piling on, I am unhesitant to label our 2026 mid-term elections as a
watershed moment. There is ongoing enthusiastic,
serious, and sometimes frightening debate about what this nation is and what it
should be in the future. If each of
us…regardless of our political beliefs…does not actively participate in the
election decisions that are approaching, then we are essentially ceding that
debate to others. And if we do that, we
are no more than sheep and will have no grounds for complaints when the
decision is made. This is a long
post. There are a lot of links…but there is truly a lot to think about.
I
urge you to revisit a past piece I posted regarding this theme. I believed it then…and I believe it even more
today: https://centerlineright.blogspot.com/search?q=the+times+they+are+a+changin

The
US Economy is fundamentally strong; it is moving in the right direction.
A mechanism of this size does not move in
leaps and bounds; it moves incrementally. Rather than waste time complaining about how the
economy is today, we should focus on how the economy was two or three years ago
and compare that to how it is today. Are
we moving in the right direction?
