Is Donald Trump Inevitable?

As of right now…it sure looks that way.  The only thing that could upset that applecart would be the incarceration of Trump on one or more of the multiple indictments that have been filed against him.  And you know, the way things are going…a picture of Trump laying back on his cell cot through jailhouse bars would likely be worth several points in the polling and millions in campaign contributions.

It seems that the reality is such that many, many people are so upset with the way the Democrats conducted themselves in the 2020 elections and through the Biden Administration’s term so far that they will support Trump for President come hell or high water.  For whatever reason, they are convinced that the only way to balance the political ledger is for Trump to be restored to the presidency.

The Republicans have a field of presidential candidates that is nothing short of superior.  There are no fewer than four of these individuals who would make outstanding choices as Chief Executive.  My choice is Ron DeSantis; but there are several others who would certainly be a better choice than the ultimate Democrat candidate.  But no matter how impressive the other Republican candidates might be and notwithstanding their prospects of winning the general election as compared to Trump, the majority of Republicans, many Independents, and a few disenchanted Democrats seem dedicated to the proposition of putting the MAGAman back in the White House.

It must be stated for the record that things can absolutely change between now and Election Day in November of 2024; but it certainly appears to be leading towards a conclusion that will not be denied.  I am amused by the many articles that address the failure of the DeSantis campaign to gain any traction versus Trump; here is a good example by a very respectable author: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2023/09/15/what_happened_to_the_desantis_campaign_149765.html .  I honestly believe that the failure to pose a serious political threat towards Trump is not the failure of the alternative Republican candidates; it is more the result of the phenomenon that is Donald Trump.  The only hope for them to win is for him to self-destruct.  Now given what Donald Trump is, that is always a possibility.  But as of today, it appears he can do no wrong and will be the ultimate Republican nominee for president in 2024.

I cannot pretend to explain why the support for Trump continues to expand while his obvious flaws as a human being become more apparent through his actions and behavior.  It must be that Donald Trump represents much more than a mere candidate to many people.  For many, he is the vehicle that can hit back at the Democrats for all of their 2020 election shenanigans,  their incredibly stupid woke madness, the idiotic policy initiatives of the Biden Administration, and the pure adrenalin rush that can be produced when the crowd invests itself in “getting back at the man” (the man being the government).

Another fact that is simply undeniable is that life in America was damn good under the Trump Administration.  It is pointless to submit analysis which argues that much of this success was not due to Trump, but rather to other sources and events.  The simple truth is that Trump was President, he was in control of the White House, and the credit rightfully flows in his direction.  We all know that if things had not gone well, the blame would certainly be flowing in that direction.  This is evident in the fact that 99 percent of the stuff that the Democrats have thrown at Trump has little or nothing to do with his policies; they have to do with the character of the man himself.

This inability to separate the man Donald Trump from the good things that occurred during his presidency makes it extremely difficult to oppose him at any level.  If you cannot attack his policies when he was president, then you must go after his personal flaws.  And the simple fact is that as bad as some of those flaws might be, many of his attackers (and his predecessors) have flaws just as bad or worse.  If you live in the glass house known as Washington, DC…you better be very cautious about throwing stones.

Ron DeSantis is in the throes of a powerful conundrum.  If he gets down in the mud with Trump and starts to address the foibles of Trump’s personal behavior, he may emerge the winner but will be so muddied himself as to be unviable.  It seems he has one choice; he must wait for Trump to wither under the suffocating legal challenges he faces.  If Trump’s house begins to crack under this pressure, then DeSantis is standing there as the competent backup.  But if Trump does not crack, it is difficult to see how anyone unseats him as the nominee.  To put it simply: Ron DeSantis (or any other Republican presidential nominee) cannot win the nomination; they can only hope that Trump somehow manages to lose the nomination.

If Donald Trump is to be the Republican nominee for President next year, I will be disappointed.  As a conservative Independent, I would hope that the Republican Party selects one of the other candidates who have strong resumes without the personal baggage that Trump carries.  But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Trump is the Republican nominee, he will by far be a superior choice to any person the Democrats put up in opposition.  I can only hope and pray that if he is elected president in 2024, he will spend his term trying build on his prior policy success and eschew trying to settle old scores with Democrats and RINOs.

If he can do that, grow in his presidential maturity as compared to his previous term, and marshal his MAGA forces for positive and productive change in our country… then it is quite possible that following next year’s elections, our nation could be put back on the track of recovery towards a strong economy, a respected and responsible global position on this planet, a return to civil and transparent government (THAT is a long reach), and a revival of a constitutional allegiance in our justice system that honors and respects the vision of our country as envisioned by our founders.

A short note before moving on to the news…  After completing some downed-trees cleanup on the farm this morning, I made a quick trip up to the ridge to check on the cattle.  As I broke from the woods into the open field in my UTV, I was struck once again by the sheer beauty of the world we live in.  I just finished bush hogging last week and the fields look so good this time of year.  The woods are still mostly green, but are beginning to show a hint of color that tells us fall is just around the corner.  The temps are perfect to do any type of work you have on the list.  I let my eyes extend past my fencerows and took in the vast expanse from there to the horizon.   The woods, the fields, and the never-ending blue skies provided a picture that could literally take your breath away.  I was so moved by the sight that I said a short prayer to myself…Praise your name, Lord.  God is good.  God is great….P.S. Please forgive me for my sins.  It will always be a mystery to me how anyone can look at this magnificent and complex world we live in and not realize that an intelligence far greater than ours and a power beyond simple evolution must have created it.

Our third branch of government, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), has become the only remaining bulwark against much of the liberal madness that now pervades our nation.  It is unfortunate that the wheels of justice turn so slowly, but we must never forget that they are turning.  Based on the current composition of the SCOTUS, we can take comfort in their decisions that will in large part determine the future of America and uphold our Constitution.

If you will only listen to the Democrats, they will tell you what they intend to do with our government.  They seek an autocratic body that increases the size and power of itself, strengthens its control over the lives of the citizenry, and stifles dissent with every lever of power available to it.

The U.S. economy is in truly dangerous waters.  Many of the underlying supports for our economy are weakened or compromised and there are trends in motion that do not bode well for the future of America’s working class.  Without a doubt, many times a president is along for the ride on the national economy and can really do very little to impact it.  Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has been very pro-active in their meddling with the economy and it has had a disastrous effect on it.

President Joe Biden’s potential impeachment by the House of Representatives is a topic that I am quite ambivalent about.  While it appears quite likely that Biden has done some things that fit neatly into the terms of impeachment (bribery),  I cannot forget the frustration and futility I felt when Congress went after Clinton in the 90’s and the same feelings I experience as the Democrats continue to chase their white whale Donald Trump.  I would prefer to let the courts deal with any crimes that may have been committed by the Biden Family Enterprise and its members.

At its fundamental core, impeachment is a political tool and must be evaluated in those terms.  Joe Biden will hopefully be gone in about a year and three months.  An impeachment inquiry and proceeding would eat up a large chunk of that time and even if the House impeaches Biden, there is no possible way the Senate will convict him on those charges.  It would seem more reasonable to simply allow Representative Comer to continue his investigation, disclose those findings to the public, and then let the voters decide on Biden’s behavior if he stands for re-election next year.

I can understand a member of the House defending the initiation of the impeachment process as simply doing their sworn duty; it is in fact an obligation of the House to monitor the President and his Administration.  On the other hand and as I said before, impeachment is a political tool and should be wielded with a good dose of common sense and logic.

With a President that is as obviously corrupt as Joe Biden appears to be, it is difficult not to pursue impeachment.  This is one of those times when the dynamics of the situation are so complex and powerful that it is nearly impossible to predict the outcome.  Regardless, Joe Biden and his Biden Family Enterprise continue on with business as usual.

We Have Lost Something that is Precious

There are two new terms making the rounds these days that describe certain aspects of the labor market.  Quiet Quitting” and “Boreout” are two particular manners of employee behavior that are really not new at all; they have simply been rebranded in an effort to make them more appealable for news consumption and perhaps more acceptable through a woke approach.

When logic and reality speak plainly about the facts and folks are not comfortable with t hose facts, they will oftentimes fall back, rename them, and try once again to promote them to the public.  Obviously, the hope is that somewhere lost in translation will be the inconvenient plain and simple truths that make the subject seem either foolish or unacceptable to many people.  Unfortunately, this scheme is quite successful on occasion; same circus, different tent.

After decades of predicting the end of the world and seeing those dates with disaster come and go with no ill effects, the global warming contingent among us changed their term du jour to climate change.  By nestling their disproven theories amongst certain facts that are undeniable (after all, the climate IS changing; but how much of it is man-made and how much of it is natural evolution?), it is their hope that their small piece of nonsensical illogic will be effectively hidden within the broader accepted topic and somehow sneak through our bullshit radar.  Unfortunately, this too has proven rather successful.

Another example of this dog and pony trickery is the attempted rebranding of our nation’s liberal political philosophy to the new term progressives.  I mean…who can argue with being progressive?  It just sounds better, doesn’t it?  However, when you remove the labels and the wrapping paper, progressivism is still the same, thin gruel that we have known for ages as liberalism.  The jury is still out on how successful this rebranding effort will be.  Never underestimate the voting public to swallow the political bait…hook, line, and sinker.

Circling back to the original subject, quiet quitting and boreout are the new terms being used to describe the situation where an employee is disillusioned by their current job, not motivated to perform their assigned responsibilities, and yet refuses to accept the fact that if you don’t do your job, you should not get a paycheck.  They somehow believe that they can show up late, leave early, oftentimes take days off for no particular reason, take looooonnnng lunch breaks, turn out half-ass work products, and still be perfectly deserving of keeping their jobs, maintaining their position in their employer’s entity, and perhaps even receive a promotion for their exceptional insight.  These are the people that my generation called deadheads and loafers; folks who coasted along on the coattails of others who pulled their loads for them.  These people are not assets; they are liabilities.  I have to believe that no matter how woke or progressive a company might be, an employee of this caliber will not be tolerated for very long.  But….I have been terribly wrong on similar topics in recent years and stand ready to be corrected.

I am of the Boomer Generation and as I have approached my advanced age of 70, I discussed with my friends and acquaintances the generational differences between us as parents and them as our children.  Like all those who came before me, I must view life through the aspects that have been part of me; through my own life experience.  This naturally causes a certain myopia and short-sightedness when considering life, its attributes, and what is to be considered acceptable behavior.   The simplest illustration of this is when an older person expresses wonderment at the clothes, hairstyles, and music of today’s youth and then gets shocked back to reality when confronted with old photographs of their own adolescent clothing, hairstyles, and music.

But some things will not change.  Truth remains truth, honesty is straightforward, evil is everlasting, salvation is a long and narrow path, and an honest day’s work should precede an honest day’s pay.  Ethics and morals will evolve with our society and culture, but the true essence of these two standards will remain pure.  Much like that indefinable thing that is described as…I can’t explain it, but I know it when I see it…each of us have a pretty good sense of what good ethics and morals should look like.

Our young adults today are quick-witted…bright and intelligent in their own right.  Most have good hearts and want to see a better world.  They are very creative, innovative, and learn early in life to be adept at multi-tasking.  They are in many ways an extraordinary generation with unlimited potential.  What they are not is tested.  Many have been nurtured in privilege and have no concept of fundamental terms like compound interest, financial equity, workplace ethics, and basic obligations of principled behavior.  In regards to that last one, please reference the links below dealing with the ongoing student loans debate.

This gap in our children’s resumes of life…the fact that they have never truly been tested…is certainly not their fault.  Like a football team with a ridiculously easy schedule…you can only play the teams you line up across from.  Now some have been tested; but most have not.  They have not seen depressions or world wars.  They have had a buffer of a generous government nanny and relatively prosperous parentage.  But if this rebranding of fundamental and time-tested human values proves to be successful, then we as a people will have become disconnected from many of the elements that have made our country special among nations of the world and has led America to its pre-eminent position in the international community.

Some things in life must be lived to be learned.  Perhaps much of what I have discussed thus far falls into that category.  If so, the obligation falls upon we, the preceding generation, as parents and teachers and employers, to transfer these concepts to our children.  While it is true that part of the explanation for the absence of these concepts with many young adults is the lack of a specific experience in their lives; it is no doubt true that the disintegration of the family unit in our society has contributed greatly to the erosion of ethics and morals.  At the end of the day…who bears the burden of blame for the consequences of this vacuum?  Is it the kid who was never taught…or is it the parent who never committed?   On to the news………

Our schools must return to fundamental and basic education for our children.  They must stop being social warriors…subjects to naïve and foolish leadership that place their own personal agendas above their concern for the kids.  If they choose to unionize, they must select leaders that will protect their career welfare and, at the same time, help them to create the best educational system possible.  Their current leadership only serves the former purpose, while…of course…lining their own pockets with membership dues.   Teachers…wake up!

Rahm Emanuel is an ex-mayor of Chicago, the current U.S. Ambassador to Japan, and a lifelong National Democrat Party leader and partisan.  He is quoted as having said, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.  And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.   This Democrat Party philosophy is borne out in two particular examples.  One is the voting mischief accomplished by national Democrats under the guise of the covid epidemic during our last presidential election.   Unprecedented early balloting, absentee balloting, ballot harvesting, and other various election abnormalities were instituted under the guise of a national need when no actual need existed.

That crisis did not go to waste.  In fact, it contributed to the second example which was the election of Joe Biden to the presidency in order to accomplish the liberal priorities the Obama Administrations could not.  Biden’s election is the second crisis not wasted by the Democrats.

Having found  tangible political success with these recent efforts, the Democrats have continued to create emergencies where none actually exist; all in an effort to push through their radical agendas in extraordinary ways.  Only two things can stop this hijacking of law and justice: One would be national elections and two would be our judicial system.  The judicial system takes far too long to stop this madness before it can wreck irreparable harm on our country.  The best and most effective solution is to turn the Democrats out of power and remove their leverage for these extra-constitutional efforts.  The liberal quest for autocratic government and near-total control is relentless.

Part and parcel of the liberal thirst for ultimate power is the weaponization of government entities for political purposes.  This effort is running wide open, most notably by the Department of Justice (DOJ).  It is impossible to deny the existence of a dual justice system that has been foisted upon our nation by the corrupt denizens populating the DOJ.  Pay close attention to what they do and believe not a word of what they say.

Intent of shutting down our oil, gas, and coal energy sector, the Biden Administration continues to promote the foolish notion of making an overnight conversion to what it calls clean energy.  Energy prices are going through the roof and Biden continues to worsen the shortage of U.S. energy sources.  The liberal goal is obviously an effort to make fossil fuels so expensive that in comparison, the inflated and subsidized costs of clean energy will be the more viable choice.  They care not about the terrible financial costs to consumers that such a policy entails nor are they concerned about how such an approach might jeopardize the very security of our nation.

Are We Really That Stupid?

I remember the impeachment hearings when Congress went after Richard Nixon.  It is quite sobering to realize that one of the proposed articles of impeachment against Nixon was his unsuccessful attempt to politically-weaponize the Internal Revenue Service.  Wow…based on what we have seen with our last three presidents, that seems pretty small potatoes.  Republican Senators and Representatives refused to follow Nixon off that cliff.  Nixon himself went right up to the edge of the cliff, but then chose to resign rather than jump.

Then came Bill Clinton in the mid-90s with his lies and deceit…his artful parsing of every word and phrase an effort to escape the consequences of his bad judgment.  Unlike the Nixon Republicans, the Democrats of Clinton’s era were plenty willing to follow him off the cliff that he gladly leapt from.  In my humble opinion, that was the beginning of the poisonous political maelstrom we find ourselves in today.  The Republicans were far too anxious to castigate Clinton in large part due to the treatment of Nixon; Clinton was their vengeance for Nixon.  The Democrats were far too willing to turn a blind eye to Clinton’s actions and refused to honestly and credibly investigate his bad behavior.

Obama came into office with his hopes for change, but he was a narcissistic charlatan who was only interested in his own goals and ideals...and was far too lazy to perform the hard work necessary to be a president for all of the people.  Through his callous and self-serving policies, he set back racial relations in our nation for decades to come.  Obama valued his own blackness solely for its utility in the furtherance of his personal ambitions.  No presidential administration in history held more potential for positive change than his…but he frittered it all away for the sake of self-indulgence and conceit.  His administrations were riddled with corruption, incompetence, and abuse of power through executive actions.  Even to this day, it is hard to find a Democrat anywhere who is not convinced that Obama has feathered wings upon his back.  Obama was, and is, a snake that is entirely motivated by his own needs and desires.  He is the worst president this nation has had in my lifetime of over 70 years.   If the full story is ever told of Joe Biden’s corruptive behavior as his Vice-President, it would not be surprising to find that Obama was knee-deep in the same prostitution of power and influence.  Unlike Biden, he was smart enough to cover his tracks.

Donald Trump rolled into our nation’s Capitol having been the winner of a bitter contest between the least of two evils.  He sold himself as the antidote to Obama’s failed hopes and bad changes and was fortunate to be opposed by what was likely the weakest candidate the Democrats have ever selected.  Trump’s entire term was spent fighting tooth and nail with his Democrat and RINO haters.  He surrounded himself with incompetent appointees who only stayed around as long as they served his interest and he ran this country as if it were his own personal life of wealth and privilege.  A majority of the Republican Party drank his kool-aid then and continues that addiction to this day.  More than anything else, Trump proved that perhaps the best president we can have is the one that does the least.

Our nation is now cursed by Joe Biden and his Democrat Party.  This bunch of liberal ideologues is shamelessly and openly doing all of the crazy things that Obama and his ilk would only dream about.  In fact, it is quite likely that Obama and his cohorts are the ones holding the strings attached to the policy limbs of our imbecilic and senile President.  It is bad enough that the Democrat Party and their many institutional allies are foisting their particular brands of policy idiocy on the country as a whole; but the real disgrace is the contempt they hold for the public at large that sits idly by while they take our nation, our culture, our society, and the future of our children down the drain.  The Democrats glimpsed what might have been with Obama for eight years.  Given a second chance with Biden, they have been running wide open from day one and, with a full realization that the Biden first-term clock is ticking and a second one is no guarantee, they are brazenly and frenetically rushing to shove as much of their liberal madness into these United States as is possible before the clock strikes midnight.

And now, reeling with the cumulative damage from these past political misadventures, our citizenry stands upon the precipice of nominating two of the main players from this past tragedy…namely Biden and Trump.  Are we voters really so stupid as to believe that a Republican Party led by Trump won’t be as ambitious and devious as the Democrat Party under Biden has been?  Are we really looking forward to a choice of either a continued trip down the yellow brick road of liberal unicorns and rainbows or else a four-year battle royal of vengeance and spite as Trump attempts to even the score with his Democrat and RINO tormentors?  For goodness sake, have we learned nothing from what we have witnessed and experienced?

Democrats know Biden is a corrupt and profiteering lifetime politician with no ethics and few morals; but…they apparently see him as their best hope for hanging onto the levers of power in WDC.  If they are honest with themselves, Republicans must admit that Donald Trump is a man who has lived a life with a set of silverware placed in his hands.  He is as close to a common man as fire is to water.  Regardless of his unrepentant immoral behavior as a husband, father, and Chief Executive, Republicans rally behind him in a quest to hold the Democrats accountable for their senseless and uncivil pursuit of his demise.  Trump is a selfish individual who uses others up and then disposes of them when their utility is spent.  His loyalty is not to America, his Party, or our Constitution.  Those items are simply props that he uses to advance himself and his personal agenda.  Will Republicans follow Trump over the cliff the same way the Democrats followed Clinton?

Next year’s national elections will be a culmination of sixteen years of presidential malfeasance and abuse.  If our nation decides to continue down the road that has been paved for us by both national parties, then we run the very real risk of losing the very essence of our country forever.  New leadership is always a risk.  Change is always uncertain.  But repeating past mistakes and errors in judgment and expecting different results is….well, perhaps not entirely insane.  But still yet… it is pretty damn stupid.  On to the news…

Our corrupt and flaccid President is an embarrassment to himself and to our country.  He is absent of any ethical content, oblivious to the problems his Administration has created, and totally unaware of the dismal image he portrays as a Chief Executive.
