A Wide View of a Few Issues

The weird and wonderful world of education in America…how much more bizarre can it get?  Consider the terrible price our children paid for the covid shutdowns…all under the auspices of those who we entrusted to teach our children in the first place: the teacher’s unions and the liberal members of academia.  School choice is going to present severe challenges to our public-school institutions.  Those chickens were coming home to roost no matter what; the administrators of our children’s education have gotten to the point where they place their concerns, their well-being, and their ideals above those that best serve our kids.

Our nation’s public-school systems are now going into a time period where they will be dysfunctional, highly unpopular, underutilized, strapped for cash, and heading into a very serious episode or two of soul-searching.  They had better wake up, acknowledge their missteps, return to the education basics, reinstitute parental involvement in schools, narrow their focus to the mission assigned to them, and institute a transparent and accountable system that can begin to restore confidence.  The very serious competition they are going to be dealing with from private educators is, in the long run, going to force them to improve.  This is good thing.

And government, please…get out of the education business.  Take your wokeness, your politics, your social engineering idealism, your historical revisionism, and your autocratic attitudes and put them where the sun don’t shine.  Let education return to the state and local levels where it can be organized and operated by those closest to the children themselves.

Fiscal irresponsibility at the federal level has unfortunately become an accepted truth to the American people.  Both national parties have given up on taking a serious approach to solving the national deficit and debt crisis.  The Democrats have gotten to the point where it is taboo in their lexicon to even mention debt or deficit in a serious way.  They have literally adopted an official party policy that sets forth the premise that all national problems, regardless of their characteristics, can be solved by directing massive federal spending in their directions.  As if there needed to be an apt illustration of these points, just pay close attention to how the approaching debt ceiling debate unfolds.  When it comes to dollars and cents (sense, also), our national leadership in both parties is vacuous.

If we are to preserve and continue Social Security and Medicare for future generations, changes will have to be made to both programs.  If these changes are not made, the programs will fail.  They are unsustainable in their current forms: https://reason.com/2023/02/16/social-security-and-medicare-cuts-are-coming-whether-politicians-do-it-or-not/

There are some serious people who say that it is time for Social Security to end.  I am not one of them, but here is their argument: https://reason.com/video/2023/02/15/3-reasons-to-abolish-security-now/

It is way past time to have a serious debate about if we want these programs and, if so…how do we restructure them to make them sustainable.  It is difficult to see how any serious debate of this type might occur in today’s political climate.  There is no political courage remaining in either national party; they have spines of jelly.

The political weaponization of our Department of Justice, several federal judges, and government in general by the Democrat Party has not only destroyed the credibility of these institutions…it has corrupted them to point where some are finding their very need for existing is being questioned.  As it should be.   The Congress of the United States must reestablish its co-equal status in government and begin to bring ideological and rogue bureaucrats to account for their past and ongoing bad behavior; behavior that is unethical, bordering on illegality, and without a doubt…sometimes criminal.

I love podcasts.  You can stream them on one window, and continue your browsing in another.  You can put them on like the radio and perform other activities while listening.  They are so…non-invasive.  Here is a great one dealing with the RussiaGate debacle foisted upon our nation by the liberal elite, the Democrat Party, the high-tech industry, and the mainstream media.  It is most likely the biggest political scam in history.  Take just a few minutes and listen.  It is difficult to believe that this stuff actually happened…and even more incredible that essentially no one is being held accountable for their part in it: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/02/a-twitter-files-footnote-10.php

I spend a lot of time heaping well-deserved derision on Joe Biden and his Administration.  I stand by every word I have written.  But on those rare occasions when Biden deserves credit, I want to step up and give it to him.  Here is one of those times.  If you want to take a broad view and not dig too deep beneath the surface, I support this Administration’s support for Ukraine in their war against Russian aggression.  It has always been, and remains, my position that when free nations are attacked by aggressors, America should support them in their struggle for freedom and liberty.  That support should of a material and geo-political nature; not in the sense of shipping American troops to the battlefield.

Even though Biden has been mealy-mouthed and foolish in his rhetoric involving Ukraine support and much of that material support has been delayed for no good reason, the United States has belatedly stepped up and given Ukraine all the support it could expect from us.  Now Biden has performed a meaningful act that is long overdue; he has personally visited Ukraine and has visually demonstrated for the world that America stands behind them.  Kudos to Joe Biden for athis courageous act.  This is a fine demonstration of leadership.  We can only hope that Biden allows this act to speak for itself on the merits and doesn’t wring all the juice from it by using it as a political prop for self-advancement.

Clouds Gather as the Moments of Truth Approach

I would like to start this piece with the mention of a movie and its soundtrack.  The 2007 movie “Reign Over Me” featured Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle.  The movie soundtrack was a song by the Who, “Reign O’er Me”.  Now I am not now, nor have I ever been, a big Adam Sandler fan.  He is far too often over the top for my taste.  But in my humble opinion, this a great movie and a great performance by Sandler in the movie.  It features a beautiful story, outstanding performances, classic music, and if you will give it a chance…it will bring tears to your eyes.  It is quite the story of redemption; Lord knows we can all use some of that.  Don Cheadle and Sandler have a chemistry in this movie that is really effective.  Cheadle to me is like Clint Eastwood…I never saw a bad Eastwood movie; some are just better than others.  Not sure what brought this particular movie to my mind at this time, but if you have never seen it…you have a hidden treasure to enjoy.  Here is a good review of the  movie at Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/reign_over_me and here is the Who’s (one of any classic rock fan’s favorite bands) soundtrack with lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhLsC2FpDZk .  This is, without a doubt, one of Roger Daltrey’s finest efforts.  What a great marriage of film and music.  Enjoy.

Now…on to things less entertaining.  The issue of our children’s education in America continues to be one of, if not the, most important social war battle that is happening today.  Returning our curriculum from wokeness to common sense, wresting control of academia from the liberal elite and returning it to parents, providing the fat and lazy public school system with private school competition in order to increase effectiveness of both and give all parents a choice, and most of all…removing the corruptive and self-serving control of education from administrator and teacher unions and returning it to taxpayers and parents....These are the battles that are playing out all across our nation today.  The stakes could not be higher.  It appears that Florida, with Governor Ron DeSantis taking the lead, has become ground zero for this particular culture war.  But make no mistake about it, no matter where you might live in our country, this is going on in YOUR backyard and in YOUR schools.  Wake up.  Get involved.  Take care of YOUR children.

We are going to have a Presidential election in the fall of 2024.  With the mid-terms now behind us, potential candidates for both national parties are jockeying around for position to see how they might pursue their individual interests in the upcoming primary process.  Some truly expect to be President.  Some might be vying for a Vice-Presidential slot.  Some might be positioning themselves for a cabinet or plum patronage appointment.  Then there will be others who are simply going through an ego-massaging exercise to get some camera time.  Each of us will end up with a favorite, but for me…there is one prime directive: Let us NOT come down to Biden vs. Trump.  If we have learned nothing else from the past six years, surely we must realize that constant turmoil and partisan conflict is no recipe for good government.  We must also surely know by now that the last thing America needs is a Chief Executive who is over 80 years old and casts doubt every day of his life as to his competence.

BOTH NATIONAL PARTIES have candidates available that will be far better choices than Biden or Trump.  Let us  hope that the cream will rise to the top and we will have a choice between two viable candidates in November of 2024.  Personally, my early preference is Ron DeSantis at the top of a ticket with Nikki Haley as his Vice-President.  We never really know what type of President a candidate might prove to be; it is a crap shoot.  Campaigning ain’t serving.  But looking back over my life, I believe that the best experience I have seen for a potential President is serving as Governor.  A governorship demands all of the skills (with the possible exception of foreign policy) from a person managing a state government that will likely be required, albeit on a much grander scale, from a person managing our national government.  I like the way DeSantis has performed in Florida and Haley was a very effective Governor for South Carolina.  It seems to be a far better practice to examine how people have performed on the job rather than judge them on their campaign rhetoric.  Whatever YOUR choice might be, please…just anybody but Biden and Trump…ABBT.

For my money, which ain’t much, the two greatest Presidents were Lincoln and Reagan.  Given that we are near his birthday, here is some great history about Lincoln: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/02/remembering-mr-lincoln-12.php

There is a real difference between conservative government and liberal government and the reality today is that the Democrats represent liberal government and the Republicans represent conservative government.  Each…individual…elected official is unique and brings a different set of principles and values to the table; but the fact is that votes in Congress are what matters in today’s political world and we must remember that when we go to the polls.  That is exactly why idiots on both sides of the political aisle continue to get national party support and win elections.  At some point soon, we can only hope to get to a point where we can primarily consider the true character content of our voting choices rather than just their party affiliation.  But for now…we are left with the numbers game.  We will get the government we deserve…the one we vote for.

If the upcoming presidential campaign brings us nothing else, may it please greatly dispense with the all-too-common practice of candidates, and current leaders, blatantly and shamelessly lying to our faces, cherry-picking facts and statistics to support their own agendas, and essentially performing in deceitful and dishonest fashion.  Be honest with yourselves…don’t you feel totally disrespected when someone disregards your intelligence in this way?  While on this topic, one man in particular comes to mind….

The shameful abandonment BY BOTH PARTIES of fiscal responsibility is pathetic.  But anyone paying attention to federal spending must acknowledge that the Democrats, beginning with Obama and reaching stratospheric levels with Biden, have taken federal spending to a whole, new level.  I have often said that perhaps it is true that the government that governs least, governs best.  I fear this is not the case for our social security system.  If fundamental changes are not made soon to that system, it is clearly obvious that it will not be sustainable and will not be around to support our future generations.  Some political courage is called for from both sides.

The Democrats in Congress and the Deep State spent over four years chasing Donald Trump…and they continue that frenetic effort even today.  The idiocy and zealotry demonstrated in that bizarre adventure has established many irregular precedents are now beginning to come back and haunt those same Democrats.  Karma is a bitch.  Joe Biden has always been, and I fear continues to be, one shady dude.  He, his family, and their business associates have pretty effectively insulated themselves from accountability and justice in regards to their questionable business/political activities.  Hunter Biden might very well prove to be the leak that sinks that particular rotting ship.  The real question is this:  Is there sufficient time between now and the next election to pull the sheets back on the corruptive Biden family enterprise?

If there is anybody out there who has not yet gotten the message, here it is: THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS A BIASED AND UNETHICAL CLOWN SHOW!  Censorship, disinformation, bias, invasion of privacy…all of these abuses have blossomed under the unholy alliance formed between the media, the Democrat Party, the extreme liberal elements of our society and culture, academia, the Deep State, and the high tech industry.  If you believe that this notion is simply a political concoction brewed up by the Republicans and the conservative segment of our citizenry, then you are naïve beyond description.  This is not Oliver Stone running around with his hair on fire; this is very real, very ominous, very threatening, and very poisonous to our freedoms and liberties.

What Have We Got in the White House?

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has directed monstrous sums of money towards the Biden Family in general, Hunter Biden in particular, and all with President Biden in mind since he left the White House as Obama’s Vice-President.  I do not believe for one moment that Joe Biden would consciously sell out his country for pay.  Whatever else he might be, he is not a traitor.

On the other hand, when one considers his political career in total and carefully examines his performance as President over the last two years, it is not at all unreasonable to consider whether or not  he has allowed himself to be compromised by the PRC.  On his best day, Biden is not the bright bulb on the string of lights.  His tenure as Vice-President was about as insignificant as it could get (perhaps a dress rehearsal for Kamala’s time), his presidential campaign was run from his basement with the unabashed intent of shielding him from public view and comment, and his conduct as President has thus far shown every indication that he is being controlled by someone or something that “exists behind the curtain”.

It is hardly a stretch to see this man get himself in a position with the PRC and its tenacles of power and influence that results in his judgment in matters concerning the PRC being, at best, tendentious.  And while the typical human reaction to being placed in this awkward position would be to reason out the pros and cons of every decision; the obvious lack of that particular reasoning quotient for our President is a paramount point of concern.  We have all watched Biden in the public eye for over two years now and can any one of us, with any degree of confidence, have a high level of confidence in his judgement regarding national security?

The PRC, North Korea, Putin in Russia, the European nations of NATO, Erdogan of Turkey, and the Mullahs of Iran are watching our President very closely these days.  They are all very much aware of our election schedules and fully realize that the sands of the hourglass are on the downhill side of Biden’s term as President.  They do not look at America through the twisted bias of media or politics; their assessments are the simple calculus of power, self-interest, risk, and reward.  The next two years are fraught with peril for our nation.  May God be with us as we travel through them.

Beginning with the two terms of Obama, continuing surreptitiously through the Trump Administration, and leaping out of the closet completely with the arrival of President Biden, the extreme liberal elements in the American political spectrum are at the zenith of their power and glory.  The Democrat Party has formed an unholy alliance with the mainstream media and high tech to form a cabal of censorship and disinformation that would make George Orwell blush.  One must continually pose the question: How long can this denial of reality continue?  Every time a new scandal is exposed that indicts this group of maniacal egotists, they seem to weather the storm and continue on their magical mystery tour of wokeness and ultimate government autonomy.

The moral and ethical devolution of the media in the United States is a continuing tragedy of monumental proportions.  Conservatives live in a conservative media bubble, while liberals reside in their liberal media bubble.  The bubbles bounce off each other on a regular basis, but never seem to meld or blend.  We exist today in a politically binary state where compromise is taboo and the only acceptable outcome is complete domination.  Without a credible press to accurately and reliably inform us of the facts, we are left to our own devices…which tend to be the right or left opinions that we are already disposed towards. We conveniently find a way to validate our own notions.

Here is the best presentation yet of precisely how corrupt, ridiculous, and malicious the whole “Trump/Russia Hoax” was.  If you read nothing else about this matter, please read this…all four parts.  It is exemplary.  https://www.cjr.org/special_report/trumped-up-press-versus-president-part-1.php

Both national parties like to seed our judicial system with those they believe will carry their water.  Sometimes this agenda-driven inclination results in rogue and incompetent fools who have no respect for the system in which they operate or the law which they are pledged to uphold.  The lost conception of equal justice in America extends far, far beyond the boundaries of race and income.  These two principles are important and essential, but they have been surpassed by the political bias exhibited by federal judges in the realm of conservative and liberal considerations.  The January 6 debacle is a case in point: https://amgreatness.com/2023/02/03/theater-of-the-absurd-in-j6-courtrooms/

And speaking of absurd…if there is any degree of honesty clinging to the recent history that will be written about the covid epidemic, the institution of American education and all it encompasses will come in for a lot of shame, blame, and downright derision.  What a lot of foolish people did to us, and especially our children, in the name of “science” is a scandal beyond description.  The true absurdity is that in many circles, the madness continues unabated.  The American public was asked to audition for the role of sheep…and the vast majority got the part.

I spoke earlier about how liberal thought and dialogue was detached from reality; especially when viewed through the prism of the Biden Administration.  There is sometimes a fine line between pure ignorance and plain deceit.  Methinks these Biden folks have crossed that line.  Or…perhaps they are simply comfortable straddling it; standing on whichever foot is convenient at that moment.  Some cases in point:
